Stabilizing the Nervous System

Yoga practice has a direct relationship with the appropriate functionality of the nervous system. The practices of breath, bandha, asana and drishti are designed to work on the level of the autonomic nervous system even if you’re not aware that that’s what you’re doing, but the stability that comes with awareness of the process can be a game-changer. Learn about the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, the vagus nerve, polyvagal theory, downregulation, upregulation, how the yoga practice you already do affects all of these systems, and specific exercises to get the appropriate nerves online in times of stress.
