Cost: $175 includes Mysore practice (welcome to come up to 6 times/week) during the month of April. If you wish to continue with Mysore practice after the intro series is over, monthly shala fees are $150).

This is a small-group introduction to Mysore-style Ashtanga. The main goal of this is to give new students a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of Ashtanga Yoga in a format that allows for discussion, questions, and philosophy in addition to asana practice. 

We will meet once a week for four weeks, and what we learn during this time together will be what you practice during the following week in AYM's Mysore room. There is no need to know anything about Ashtanga ahead of time.

The format:

Each week will start with a short led asana class. This will evolve over the course of the four weeks, as you learn sun salutations, standing postures and closing postures, with the intention of memorizing what you learn bit by bit. After the short led class, we will spend the remaining hour or so in discussion about the practice: philosophy, history, ritual, purpose, and energetics.

You will be expected and invited to practice in the Mysore room during the week: arriving anytime between 6 and 7:30, finishing by 8:30am. This is where the practice gets integrated, and during this time I am especially available for the intro students. Please aim to practice at least three times per week. Home practice is encouraged on days that you are not able to make it in to the shala.
