Angela Jamison Weekend: July 27-28 2018

I am thrilled to welcome back to AYM Angela Jamison, a Certified Ashtanga teacher in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This weekend is appropriate for all folks who practice Ashtanga, whether you are new or seasoned. Use the form below to register or to ask any questions about the weekend.

Friday July 27, 6-8:30pm

Talk: The Purpose of Yoga.

The Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika all have different meta-messages about what is the purpose of yoga. What are they?

This is a talk for beginners, and for getting seasoned practitioners back into the space of big-mind curiosity about what it’s all about. It’s a reminder that the spiritual practice of yoga is grounded in study of spiritual wisdom sources, of which these three texts are powerful examples.  If we know we are practicing to bless all beings in all words, or to end our own suffering, or to learn to take enlightened action in the world, the practice actually can get MUCH more clear and strong.

Saturday, July 28, 8-10am

Led Primary Series

With traditional Sanskrit counting. You will learn something about your body, something about your mind, and something about your habitual patterns in this class. Come as you are; no proficiency is required.

Saturday July 28, 10:30-3

Talk and Workshop: Polarity

There is no prana without apana. We will sensitize ourselves to the natural polarities that emerge in language and experience, and note the historical ways that the notions of femininity and masculinity have always undergirded this practice. Get interested in the polarities always at work within our bodies, in relationship, and most certainly in the practice. More than anything, this is about energy awareness. This session will include both lecture/discussion and asana, and there will be a break for a light lunch.

Full workshop: $180

This weekend is meant to be taken as a whole, and we highly recommend that you do so. However, space permitting, you may attend one or two of the sessions a la carte. Prices below.

Friday night: $50
